As a mark of tribute to the renowned Indian mathematician, Mr. Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Department of Statistics in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics organized a commemoration event on December 22. Mr. Ramanujan made significant contributions to the theory of numbers and is credited with pioneering discoveries related to the partition function.
As a part of this year's celebration in 2022, the departments jointly hosted an Inter-Collegiate Mathematics and Statistics Meet, named "Saankhya 22." The meet included various competitions, including a Quiz, Spell Bee, Powerpoint Presentation, and Poster Presentation, specifically designed for Mathematics and Statistics students from various colleges. A total of 25 students participated in these competitions.
Certificates were awarded to students who secured the first, second, and third positions in each of the competitions. The event was a resounding success, providing an excellent platform for young students to showcase their skills and knowledge in the field of Mathematics and Statistics while paying tribute to the great mathematician, Mr. Ramanujan.
EXHIBITION ON
CONTRIBUTION OF TEACHERS IN INDIAN KNOWLEDGE SYSTEM
On 9th September 2022, the Department of Statistics organized an exhibition as a part of Teacher’s day celebrations in line with the UGC's instructions. The main objective of this exhibition was to recognize the important role of teachers in the Indian knowledge system and to honor their contributions in shaping young minds and building the nation.
As a part of the exhibition, students presented a chart presentation on two eminent Indian statisticians. This was a great way to showcase the contributions made by these statisticians in the field of statistics and the impact they have had on the Indian knowledge system.
This exhibition was a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of teachers and their invaluable contributions to the society. It is important to recognize the immense contribution of teachers in nurturing young minds and building a better future for the country. The exhibition was a great way to do just that and to inspire future generations to pursue careers in teaching and research.
National Statistics Day is observed on June 29th every year, to commemorate the birth anniversary of the renowned and distinguished statistician, Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis. This observance was initiated by the Government of India in 2007, with the aim of promoting public awareness, particularly among young people, about the crucial role of statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulation. The annual celebration focuses on the life and contributions of Professor Mahalanobis, which can serve as a source of inspiration for aspiring statisticians.
As learners of statistics, the Department of Statistics at Maris Stella College is committed to contributing to this.

SAANKHYA - 18
The department has conducted an intercollegiate Statistics meet ‘SAANKHYA’18’ by the Statistics club “SAANKHYA” .On this occasion, the department has arranged a guest lecture by Dr. Prasad, Data scientist, Honey well technologies and solutions, Hyderabad on “The applications of Statistics in real world and opportunities in Business analytics”. While speaking he mentioned that Statistics students has plenty opportunities in business field with a sound good background of computer knowledge. On the same day the department also conducted paper presentation, poster presentation and quiz competitions for the students from various colleges . 15 colleges in and around Vijayawada were participated in the competitions and won the prizes.
Mrs. Saraja from the department has attended a three day national workshop on “ the applications of SPSS, Structural Equation modeling by AMOS” conducted by Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore , Tamilnadu from November 23rd to 25th ,2018.
