On June
29, every year, National Statistics Day is celebrated to mark the birth
anniversary of Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, a renowned and eminent
statistician. It was started by the Government of India, in 2007. The main idea
behind celebrating this day is to create awareness among the people especially
the youth of our country so that they draw inspiration from the works of Prof.
Mahalanobis which clearly suggest that statistics plays a crucial role in
socio-economic planning and policy formulation.
As Statistics learners, we, the department
of Statistics are also wants celebrate this day. So, on 29th June,
As a part of this, a guest lecture
will be taken by Mr. P. Naresh Kumar,
Econometrician, APCRDA, Amaravathi, on
the topic “ Changing scenario of
Statistics in today’s world.” Followed by PPT and Poster presentation
competitions to the students.
SAANKHYA - 18
The department has conducted an intercollegiate Statistics meet ‘SAANKHYA’18’ by the Statistics club “SAANKHYA” .On this occasion, the department has arranged a guest lecture by Dr. Prasad, Data scientist, Honey well technologies and solutions, Hyderabad on “The applications of Statistics in real world and opportunities in Business analytics”. While speaking he mentioned that Statistics students has plenty opportunities in business field with a sound good background of computer knowledge. On the same day the department also conducted paper presentation, poster presentation and quiz competitions for the students from various colleges . 15 colleges in and around Vijayawada were participated in the competitions and won the prizes.
Mrs. Saraja from the department has attended a three day national workshop on “ the applications of SPSS, Structural Equation modeling by AMOS” conducted by Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore , Tamilnadu from November 23rd to 25th ,2018.
